Remove Blog From WordPress In A Few Clicks

WordPress has been pigeon-holed as being only a blogging platform. It’s not true.

WordPress started as a blogging platform and blogging is still core to WordPress, but it can also be used to create standard, static websites. All you have to do is remove the blog from WordPress.

It is easy to remove blog from WordPress. In fact, it only takes a few clicks of a button. You just need to make sure that you 301 redirect all of the old blog pages if those pages were indexed by Google.

If the site your working on is brand new then you can easily remove the blog component.

If the site already has blog posts, then you’ll want to 301 redirect ( the blog URLs to a page that you’re keeping, so that you don’t lose all the traffic in the short term.

In either case, the first steps the are the same.

Go to Settings, then Reading. The drop down beside “Posts page” sets the page that the blog posts will be listed on. Change that drop down to “—- Select —-“.

Then click on Save Changes. Now, no pages on your site will display posts.

If your site has never had posts, you’re done.

If your site does have posts, we need to delete them or at least change the status to Draft. You’ll also need to delete or change to draft the old blog page.

Click on Pages to see a list of all the pages. Find the Blog page and click on Quick Edit below it to change it to Draft. Or click on Trash to delete it.

Next, click on Posts to see a list of all the posts.

Now click on the check box in the title bar of the table. That will select al posts on the page.

Then from the Bulk Actions dropdown choose Edit and click Apply. You can choose the status to draft for all posts here.

Or from the Bulk Actions dropdown choose Trash to delete the posts.

Next you’ll want to 301 redirect all the post URLs to a different page on your site that is still live. To do this, you’ll need a list of all your URLs and the instructions in this video:

For each URL you’ll recreate a redirect to a page you’re keeping.

You can test that the redirect is working properly by visiting the URLs and seeing where they redirect you to.
