WordPress 5.0 is about to ship in a month or two — and Gutenberg will completely change the way we craft content! 🗞️
Gutenberg is already available as a plugin, and the latest minor version prompts site owners to give it a try. There are already 200,000 active installations using Gutenberg on a day-to-day, and the new editing experience will be integrated by default (virtually replacing the what-you-see-is-what-you-get editors) by version 5.0.
If you don’t work closely with WordPress (and aren’t a developer), this may be surprising — which is why I’ve prepared this overview of Gutenberg, what to expect, and how it compares to the current way we build content, develop dynamic pages, and shape our websites.
Spoiler alert: There’s a workaround that keeps the current editor if you are hesitant to switch. But unless you get prepared on time, don’t be surprised if you wake up to a brand new editing experience if your hosting or tech team proactively updates new versions 😛
